Intermediate String Ensemble is a group for violin, viola, cello and double bass players from year 6 upwards who are grade 2 to 5 on their instrument. The group rehearse in Whitchurch High School lower site on Saturday mornings from 10am to 12pm. Throughout the academic year, we hold 3 concerts in various settings that often feature our fellow ensembles.

The aim of Intermediate String Ensemble is to develop our member’s performance skills and widen their understanding of music theory in a fun and engaging environment, encouraging the members to offer their own musical repertoire suggestions.

Conductor Biography

James Rhys Grindle is a multi-instrumentalist whose first study is viola. He has a BMus from Cardiff University and a PgDip from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama having studied with former principal viola of the Welsh National Opera Philip Heyman. He is an accomplished composer and conductor who has performed and taught in a variety of musical environments for nearly twenty years.
